
Configuring
Windows XP for Dialup
- Open “Start” Menu and Select “Control Panel”. In the control panel window, double click “Network and Internet Connections” as shown in the snap shot below.

In the Network Connection window, click “Create a New Connection”.

The New Connection wizard will start. Click the “Next” Button to begin the
wizard.

Select the “Connect to the Internet” Option, and click “Next”.

Select “Set up my connection manually” option, and click “Next”.

Select the “Connect using a dial-up modem” option, and click “Next”.

In the “ISP name” field type “GTnet”.

Enter the GTnet’s dial-up telephone number “1515”into the phone number field and
click “Next”.

Enter your Username "dialup4u" and Password "dialup4u" and Confirm password into
their respective fields.

Check “Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet
from this computer”.

Check “Make this default Internet connection”

Click “Next” when finished.

Check the box “Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop” and click
“Finish”.

The connection window opens automatically but if doesn’t, double click on GTnet
icon and click on the “Properties” button.

Check the following :
- Display progress while connecting
- Prompt for name and password, certificate, etc.
- Prompt for phone number .
- Click on the “Networking” tab.
- PPP: Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, Internet should be selected as the Type of
dial-up server I am calling. Internet Protocol, QoS Packet Scheduler, and Client
for Microsoft Networks should all be checked. Then click on the “Properties”
Button.
- Choose “Obtain IP address automatically” and “ Obtain DNS server address
automatically” and click the “advanced” button.
- Check the following:
- Use default gateway on remote network.
- Use IP header compression.
- Click “OK” when finished.
- Click “OK”.
- Click “Dial” to connect to the Internet.
