
Configuring
Microsoft Outlook for email
- From the ‘Start’ button, select ‘Programs’ and then select ‘Microsoft
Outlook’. This opens the Microsoft Outlook program. NOTE: If it is your first
time launching the program the pop up or screen below appears. Click on ‘Yes’ to
make Microsoft outlook your default mail agent. This will take you to step 2.
- From the ‘Tools’ menu select ‘E-mail Accounts…’
- From the E-mail Accounts dialogue box click the ‘Add a new e-mail account’
radio button as shown below.
- After selecting ‘Add a new e-mail account’ click on the ‘Next’ button to
continue.
- Click on ‘POP3’ under the server types. This activates the Next button for
you to continue.
- Click on the ‘Next’ button to continue.
- In this window you are required to provide the user and server information:
- In the ‘Your Name:’ field type in the name as you would like it to appear on
your outgoing mails.
- In the ‘E-mail Address:’ field type in your e-mail address in the form
username@ghanatel.com.gh, where username is your user ID.
- Type your username in the ‘User Name field:’ The username is your user ID.
- Type your e-mail accounts password in the ‘Password:’ field.
- In the ‘Incoming mail server (POP3):’ type pop3.ghanatel.com.gh.
- In the ‘Outgoing mail server (SMTP):’ type smtp3.ghanatel.com.gh. NB: In
this example the ‘Your Name is Kofi Annan and the ‘E-mail’ is kannan@ghanatel.com.gh.
After typing everything click on Test Account Settings. This checks to see if
all your settings are correct.
- If everything checks out ok, click on ‘Close’ button to return to the E-mail
Accounts dialogue box.
- Click on the ‘Next’ button to continue.
- Click on ‘Finish’ to finish with your setup.
- This takes you back to the initial screen as shown in the screen shot below.
- You are now ready to send and receive mails. You can test your account by
sending an e-mail to yourself.
